About This Archive Site

Do you still remember EuropaNET, which countries it connected, its transmission speeds? And what about Phare, MailFLOW and TEN-34? And all the other projects, studies and services DANTE has been involved in since its launch in 1993? With this Archive website we go back to the early days, 1993. We aim to offer a comprehensive overview of DANTE's activities over the years and its role as a prominent player in the evolution of pan-European research networking.

Presentation of Information

Information on projects completed between 1993 and 2003 has been transferred from the old DANTE website (which was replaced by a new site in October 2003). This information has been re-arranged and restructured to offer a consistent and attractive overview.

In some cases meta-information has been added to the original web pages and files in an effort to offer a quick and comprehensive insight into a particular project. Examples include the overviews titled "Developments on ... as reported in The Works of DANTE", in which all features on a particular project over time have been grouped together in one document.

Web pages and microsites for projects which were completed after the new website was launched in October 2003 will be included in their original format and their entirety.

For each project, we have created a cover page which offers a quick overview of objectives, achievements, milestones and partners involved. In addition, the Document Library contains links to relevant files and documents.

As some web pages and documents have not been maintained for a long time, you may come across obsolete links. Nevertheless, we have included this information in the Archive in order to provide a full picture of project developments.

Private Areas

Most of the restricted content that was previously available to partners in projects is now only accessible to Policy Committee Members and DANTE staff. Please contact us if you find you require access to the restricted area of a particular project.

For each project year a copy of the original index is included at the top of the documents list. In some cases you may find that a (particularly older) project document is missing. This is due to faulty postscript files which could not be converted into PDF. Should you require access to any of these missing files please let us know.
