Welcome to the DANTE Archive
For over a decade DANTE has been a prominent player in the provision of pan-European backbone network services to the National Research and Education Networks (NRENs). For a comprehensive overview of DANTE's completed activities over the years, from the early days in 1993 up till now, you can now consult this Archive. Projects are grouped in six main categories:
- The organisation and management of pan-European Backbones: DANTE's core activity and 'raison d'être'.
- Intercontinental: connection to the wider internet, in particular the US, but increasingly to other continents as well.
- Applications: projects and activities focussing on network Applications
- Technology: testing and experimenting with state-of-the art network technologies
- Publications: over the years DANTE has used a number of publications to spread the word about its activities
- A-Z list: an alphabetically ordered list of all topics covered in the Archive.
EuropaNET, launched in 1992, was the first in a succession of pan-European Research Backbone Networks. Today, the seventh generation Backbone Network is up and running: GÉANT2.
DANTE, in collaboration with TERENA and the European National Research and Education Networks, has long been at the cutting edge of pan-European Backbone Network Technology through its involvement in Task Forces.
